Responsive / Threadless - Design A Monster tee

After hearing about this competition through communications with one of my peers, I knew this brief would of been a perfect chance to bring my screen printing skills back up to scratch. Doing such illustrations were also a focus for me in my final project of foundation. This type of brief also gave me chance to step away from the large bulk of designing, thinking & conceptual approaches. Instead I was able to have some fun with my design and sort of take it as it came. PLUS, I'd generated a concept a while back that still hadn't been executed, so this was my perfect chance...

The Brief:

The preconceived idea; Bring the concept of a 'KNUCKLEHEAD' to life, combining a knuckleduster with...a head. But given the nature of the brief, I can tailor the head to be that of a monsters.

For the knuckleduster, I'll be incorporating aspects from each of these 3 knuckledusters.

1. I think the spikes on the end of the first image above add to the gruesome nature and 'horned' appearance of monsters.

2. The spacing and dimensions between these finger holes, create a very symmetrical and solid looking knuckleduster. Vague resemblance to the head of a deer or similar.

3. The rough nature and altering widths of the knuckleduster give it that raw and mean appearance that I'll be trying to achieve in my depiction of a monster.

Because I was on my way in terms of generating a concept, I though I'd try and incorporate two briefs into one, entering the t-shirt design into two separate competitions. Threadless required something specific (a monster) whereas the other competition (Purple leaves) simply asked for t-shirt designs. Although the design I'd be submitting to this competition was quite different to the average range of designs, it offered something different & well executed (hopefully).
