What is a Crit?

What is a Crit?

  • A Critical analysis of someones work
  • A structured discussion
  • Stating the good and bad points of a piece of work, using the feedback as an opportunity to improve
  • Constructive criticism
  • Somewhere to gather ideas, using other works as inspiration
  • Taking onboard others opinions
  • Seeing if your message has been communicated effectively from other POVs

Why do we crit?

  • For preparation in the real world
  • Gain a better vocabulary
  • Learn how studios work
  • So your able to put your work out for all to see, which may change your approach to the way you work
  • To respond
  • Find out what works and what doesn't

DIET (The right way to crit)
  • Describing
  • Interpreting
  • Evaluating
  • Theorising
A selection of my best questions, while analysing an image.....
  • How was it created?
  • Why have you chosen that particular layout?
  • Is it open for interpretation?
  • What is its purpose?
  • What do certain aspects symbolise?
  • What context would it be used in?
  • What reaction are you expecting from the audience your targeting?
